Enrollment FAQs

How soon must I enroll in the PRA Classical Academy for Homeschoolers?

The sooner the better because classes always fill up quickly!  Enrollment typically opens in December or January for the upcoming school year. Due to our space restrictions, once the classes are at maximum capacity, students will then be placed on a waiting list.

Do students need to take placement tests prior to the start of school?
Every new student will need to take the free Saxon Math placement test.  Correct placement should lead to the ultimate success of the student. Please have your student take the test without parent support. Parents should then process the results. Results will be requested during step 3 of the enrollment process.  Please do not send us the raw test.
Am I allowed to attend PRA Classical Academy for Homeschoolers if I live outside of Douglas County?
Yes, students may attend our program if they reside in Douglas County or in any of the nearby surrounding counties. Whichever county you reside in, you will need to provide proof of residency with your enrollment paperwork.
I have indicated that I would like to enroll my child verbally or at a Prospective Parent meeting. Is my child guaranteed a spot?

In order to obtain a spot with PRA Classical Academy for Homeschoolers, you must complete the online application. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Current students and siblings will be given first priority. If the program fills up, we will place your student on a waiting list.

We are a returning family, what do I need to do this year?
In order to obtain a spot with PRA Classical Academy for Homeschoolers, a complete registration packet must be filled out and submitted. Spaces will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Current students and siblings will be given first priority. If the program fills up, we will place your student on a waiting list.

Will my student's learning plan (e.g. IEP, ALP, ELLP, MTSS, 504) be served at PRA Homeschool?

Applicants interested in attending Platte River Academy’s Classical Academy for Homeschoolers (PRACAH) should be aware that this program meets one or two days per week depending on grade level. The programming and services defined within a student’s IEP are based on specialized service providers and time allotments over a typical 5-day week; therefore, most students on IEP's or other formal plans must attend a full-time program in order for the designated services to be provided. Because PRACAH is a part-time homeschooling program and parents are considered the primary educators, the services designated inside the formal plans cannot be met.  PRACAH’s teachers will work with families to provide accommodations for any student with specific learning needs and/or disabilities; however, the student’s IEP ALP, ELLP or MTSS with specific time allocations for services with providers will be suspended while enrolled at PRACAH.

The first step to enrollment includes and application process where we gather a list of potential students.  The list may contain the names of students with special needs and current IEPs, who deserve the same opportunities to enroll in our school, and if  the student’s needs can be met within our current framework they will be enrolled in the PRACAH program.  Upon enrollment a Director from PRA will contact the parents of a student with a formal plan to discuss and determine if the student's needs can be met at PRACAH.  Once  it is determined that PRACAH in partnership with the homeschool family can meet the student's needs, the family will need to waive services and the formal plan will be suspended.  However, if it is determined that the required services are essential to the child's success  at school and are not available at PRACAH then the team will support a transition to an appropriate program or location.
